The Moment
Japan and the United States are navigating remarkably similar social challenges. From ageing populations and declining social trust to rural revitalisation and workforce transformation, leaders in both countries are asking many of the same questions.
Yet while the challenges are shared, opportunities to learn from one another remain rare.
JUSSIN was created to bridge that gap, fostering long-term collaboration between leaders who might never otherwise meet.

Our Story
JUSSIN began on a bus during the 2024 US–Japan Leadership Program in Seattle, when Cosmo Fujiyama Ghaznavi and Daichi Konuma discovered they were wrestling with remarkably similar leadership challenges despite working an ocean apart.
That conversation sparked a simple question:
What if more leaders in both countries could learn from, lean on, and build alongside one another?
With support from ETIC, JANP, and the US–Japan Foundation, that question became a pilot. The pilot became a growing network of leaders committed to solving shared challenges through collaboration.
Today, JUSSIN continues to build the relationships that make cross-border social innovation possible.

Our Role
The Japanese and U.S. social sectors have developed along very different paths, with distinct histories, structures, and funding models. Those differences are not barriers—they are opportunities.
JUSSIN creates the infrastructure that enables leaders to exchange ideas, challenge assumptions, and build solutions together.
We strengthen collaboration across three dimensions:
Between Countries
Connecting two social sectors whose differences create new opportunities for innovation.
Between Leaders
Building trusted relationships that strengthen leadership, resilience, and peer learning.
Between Ideas and the World
Supporting promising collaborations as they evolve into real experiments with lasting impact.
